Colourful wooden houses by the water with sharp mountains and the midnight sun in the background in Lofoten.

Fly to Lofoten

Lofoten stretches out into the open sea like an arm from the mainland. Wild and beautiful, with sharp peaks rising straight from the shore and small fishing villages scattered like pearls along the coast. In summer, you can experience the world‑famous midnight sun. In winter, the Northern Lights dance across the sky.

Fly to and from Lofoten with Widerøe

With Widerøe you can fly directly to Svolvær, Røst and Leknes in Lofoten from Bodø and Tromsø. This summer you can also fly directly to Leknes from Bergen and from Oslo, and find direct flights to Svolvær from Oslo.

From Lofoten, you can travel to other destinations in Norway with just one stop, such as Trondheim and Stavanger.

Airports in Lofoten

There are three airports in Lofoten: Leknes Airport (LKN), Svolvær Airport (SVJ) and Røst Airport (RET). All airports have a single terminal for arrivals and departures. The journey from the airports to the towns takes 5–15 minutes by car, taxi or rental car.

Why travel to Lofoten?

Lofoten offers nature experiences you will never forget – whether you want to spot the mighty sea eagle, catch your own dinner or go horse riding along white sandy beaches under the midnight sun. You can hike in the mountains with views of the open sea, stroll between rorbuer in lively fishing villages and feel close to nature wherever you go.

Life in Lofoten has always been closely tied to the sea. In Svolvær, the dramatic Trollfjord awaits. In Henningsvær, you will find art and coastal culture. At Unstad, waves roll onto the beach and draw surfers from all over the world.

Many people associate Lofoten with bright summer nights and busy fishing villages. In winter, a calm stillness settles over the islands. From late September to mid‑April, the nights are dark enough to experience the Northern Lights. Dress warmly, bring something hot to drink and enjoy this magical natural phenomenon.
