Cayak on the water in Leknes with a view of fishing boat, dock and mountains.

Fly to Leknes

In the heart of Lofoten, surrounded by mountains, sea and wide-open beaches, lies Leknes. Here you can enjoy white sandy beaches, surf waves, mountain hikes and great food – whether you visit in summer, when the midnight sun shines around the clock, or in winter, when the northern lights light up the sky.

Fly to and from Leknes with Widerøe

With Widerøe you can fly directly to Leknes from Bodø and Tromsø. This summer you can also fly directly to Leknes from Bergen, as well as find daily flights from Oslo.

From Leknes, you can travel to other destinations in Norway with just one stop, such as Trondheim and Stavanger.

Leknes Airport

Leknes Airport (LKN) is located around two kilometres from the town centre and has a single terminal for both arrivals and departures. The journey from the airport to the centre takes about five minutes by car or taxi, or 20–25 minutes on foot.

Why travel to Leknes?

Leknes is in the middle of Vestvågøy, the largest island in Lofoten, and is an excellent base for exploring everything the region has to offer. From Leknes, you are within easy reach of well-known spots such as Hauklandstranda and Unstad, as well as Reine and Trollfjord.

The area offers great experiences all year round. You can hike in the Lofoten Alps, kayak in Reinefjord, try surfing at Unstad or fish from land or by boat. In winter, you can also take part in the legendary Lofoten cod fishery and experience the spectacular northern lights. If you are looking to slow down, Hauklandstranda is well worth a visit. With white sand and turquoise waters, it is easy to see why many consider it Norway’s best, and perhaps most beautiful, beach.

Culture and history are also part of the journey. At Borg, you can visit the Lofotr Viking Museum and learn about life in Lofoten more than 1,000 years ago. Coastal traditions are still very much alive today and you can taste this in the local cuisine. Lofoten is a gastronomic haven for seafood lovers, with restaurants serving the freshest catch from the sea.
