Fly to Alta

In Finnmark’s largest town, real adventures await. In Alta, you’ll find striking nature, from ski trails and cycling routes to mountain peaks – and a world-class salmon river.

Fly to and from Alta with Widerøe

With Widerøe, you can fly directly to Alta from Tromsø, Berlevåg, Hammerfest and Kirkenes. From Alta you can fly to Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim and Bodø – with just one connection.

Alta Airport

Alta Airport (ALF) is located four kilometres from the town centre and has a single terminal for departures and arrivals. The journey from the airport to the centre takes around 10 minutes by car or taxi.

Why travel to Alta?

Alta is a town with activities and experiences for most people, especially if you’re looking for an active holiday. Here, you can explore Finnmarksvidda on foot, on skis or by bike, or try dog sledding and snowmobiling. If you’re up for a longer adventure, join a guided tour from Alta to Karasjok, with great views, good food and overnight stays out in nature. You’ll also find the Alta River, known for world-class salmon fishing, and Alta Canyon, offering dramatic landscapes – whether you explore it on foot, by bike or from a riverboat.

At the same time, you can experience history and culture up close. The unique rock carvings at Alta Museum are part of the UNESCO World Heritage List and offer a rare glimpse into life here thousands of years ago. In the town centre, you’ll find the Northern Lights Cathedral, where you can learn more about this fascinating natural phenomenon – from science and facts to stories and myths.

Alta also offers experiences that bring people together. Watch the Finnmark Sled Dog Race, one of the toughest dog sled races in the world, or head towards the coast for sea fishing, whale watching or king crab safaris. And when darkness falls, you may be lucky enough to see the northern lights dancing across the sky.
