Special assistance
All our passengers have different needs. In order to offer you the best possible help, we require information about your needs at least 48 hours prior to departure.
Widerøe offers persons with disability and mobility needs services in accordance with Regulation (EC) 1107/2006.
If you book your flight less than 48 hours prior to departure, we will try to help as best we can. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that we are able to meet all your needs.
Read more about how we can help you below.
Wheelchair and mobility
Passengers can bring their own wheelchair and other special assistance equipment needed in everyday life free of charge. We need to know if the passenger has a manual or electric wheelchair, the size (height x width x length), weight and type of battery.
For travelling with battery driven wheelchair, there are some restrictions regarding number of wheelchair per flight and transport of battery. For detailed information regarding transport of battery, please check here
Wheelchair assistance is divided into three categories:
WCHR (Ramp):
The passenger can walk up/downstairs and into the plane. Assistance is required to/from the gate.
WCHS (steps):
The passenger can walk to the seat itself. Assistance is needed until the airplane, and you have to be carried up / downstairs.
WCHC (Cabin seat):
The passenger is completely immobile. Assistance is required until the aircraft seat. To meet safety regulations, both for the passenger and our staff, the passenger cannot weigh more than 120 kilos. If the passenger's weight is between 90 and 120 kilos, we need to be notified to ensure airport personnel is prepared.
The confirmation email for the flight is an acceptance for the assistance request as well.
Do you need to travel with an assistant?
Passengers will need to travel with an assistant if they require help to do any of the following:
- Unfasten seat belt
- Retrieve and fit life vest
- Put on an oxygen mask
- Understand safety announcements and instructions in case of an emergency medical assistance
- Get to and through the emergency exit in the event of an aircraft evacuation. An evacuation indicates that remaining on board poses a risk of injury, and it must therefore be carried out promptly. Our Dash-8 aircraft are not equipped with emergency slides, and you must therefore be able to jump approximately 1.5 meters from the emergency exit down to the ground.
- They require medical assistance or help during total visits.
- They have a mental or developmental disability requiring assistance.
Requirements - assistant
An accompanying passenger acting as an assistant needs to fulfill the following requirements:
- Be at least 18 years old and sit next to the passenger.
- Physically and mentally adapted to evacuate the passenger during an emergency.
- Not acting as an assistant for any other passenger on the same flight.
- Be able to assist the passenger on board with unfastening the seat belt, retrieving and fitting the life jacket, assisting the emergency exit and putting on an oxygen mask.
Please be aware than other requirements may apply when traveling in combination with other airlines.
Seating
Seat reservations
If you are traveling with an accompanying passenger or if you have any requirements for seat assignments, this could be arranged by Widerøe.
Please send an email to Widerøe Customer Service for reservation and further information.
Note that passengers with reduced mobility cannot sit next to emergency exits.
Special seats
Widerøe allows the use of one type of special children seat and car seat on board.
- Special Tomato: The seat/chair must be manufactured after 2006
- Children car seat: The car seat must be certified and labeled
A separate seat must be booked even if the child is under the age of 2 years. The reason for this is that the children car seat is placed in/occupies a passenger seat.
Special seat belts (harnesses)
Widerøe allows the following two types of special seat belts/harnesses for children:
- Cares - Airplane Safety Harness
This special harness can be used by children (10-20 kg and max 100 cm).
- Crelling Harness
This special harness exists in various sizes and can be used by both children and adults.
If you need/want a special harness, you have to bring this yourself. The guardian/parent is responsible for the usage of the harness and have to inform our crew regarding how the buckle/harness works. Please contact check-in personal when you arrive at the airport if you wish to use a special harness.
Allergies
If you are allergic to animals, please make a note of this when booking your flight. Enter information in the "Assistance" so that we can check if an animal is booked on your aircraft. If an animal is already booked, we give you the opportunity to book another flight. Your card will not be charged until your request has been confirmed. If you have informed about the allergy and we have confirmed your booking, animals will not be booked on your flight.
If you are allergic to nuts, oranges or the like, please contact the crew at the gate and on board. The crew can then refrain from serving food that can cause allergies and ask passengers not to eat products brought with them with allergenic content. However, we cannot guarantee that allergenic food will not be opened/consumed on board.
