Damaged or delayed baggage

On behalf of Widerøe, we apologize if your baggage has been delayed or damaged during your journey with us.

Once you report your baggage missing at the airport, it is logged in an international tracing system. You will receive a file reference and will receive updates via SMS or e-mail.

  • If your final flight was with Widerøe, you must immediately report the missing baggage to our representatives at the airport or registrer delayed baggage online within 5 days.
  • You will receive a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) with a unique reference number (e.g. OSLWF12345). Please keep this reference number.
  • You can use the reference number on your PIR to track your delayed baggage online.
  • When we locate your baggage, we will contact you to arrange delivery/pick up.

Reimbursement for delayed baggage

In the event of delayed baggage, you may request reimbursement within reasonable limits for essential purchases such as toiletries, clothing, or necessary equipment rental.

For delayed baggage on your outbound journey, necessary expenses are refunded in accordance with current regulations:

  • 100% reimbursement for expenses related to underwear and toiletries, up to a maximum of NOK 500.
  • 50% reimbursement for other clothing expenses if justifiable and within reasonable limits. Passengers are expected to keep costs to a minimum.

Keep your receipts, as they are required for your claim.

If your baggage is delayed on your return journey, it is expected that you already have access to essential items. In such cases, expenses for new purchases are usually not covered by the airline or the insurance company (cf. Aviation Act §10-33 and Montreal Convention Article 19).

Claims must be submitted within 21 days after the baggage has been delivered. Submit your claim here.

Do you have travel insurance?

It is often quicker and more convenient to submit your claim directly to your travel insurance provider. They usually offer broader coverage and faster processing and will recover the costs from us afterwards.

Need to contact your arrival station?

You will find phone numbers here, or get in touch with us via chat here.

Passengers are required to check their baggage and report any damage as soon as it is received. If no damage report is filed, the baggage will be regarded as delivered in good condition (cf. Aviation Act §10-26 and Montreal Convention Article 31).

Report damage

  • Report any damage immediately to our airport representatives or register your damaged baggage online.
  • You will receive a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) with a unique reference number (e.g. OSLWF12345). Please keep this, as this reference number is required if you, in addition, need it to submit a claim.
  • Certain airports in Norway may offer replacement baggage from a limited selection. Please contact our airport representative to check availability.

You are responsible for documenting that the damage occurred during the journey, if you report the damage afterwards. After 5 days, please contact the airport directly. You will find phone numbers here. A damage report must be filed within 7 days (cf. Aviation Act §10-26 and Montreal Convention Article 31).

Important Information

  • If the contents of your baggage are damaged without damage to the baggage itself, please contact your travel insurance.
  • Widerøe will primarily cover repair costs for damaged baggage. Typical wear and tear, such as scratches, dents or damage to zippers, is not covered.
  • If the baggage cannot be repaired, written confirmation is required. Please also provide a receipt showing the age and purchase price. Compensation is based on the original value, depreciated by 10% at purchase and an additional 10% per year.
    • If such documentation cannot be provided, a fixed amount of NOK 500 will be paid.
