Conditions of Carriage for Passengers and Baggage
These Conditions of Carriage govern the relationship between you as a Passenger and us as the Carrier regarding your Carriage on an aircraft operated by us or pursuant to a Ticket on which our Airline Designator Code appears for that flight or flight segment. Read the full Conditions of Carriage for Passengers and Baggage.
Successive carriers and separate tickets
When booking a journey that consists of several flights you may sometimes get a lower price by splitting the booking and purchasing separate tickets for each leg of the journey. Please be aware that splitting the booking can lead to certain inconveniences if any delays occur, please find further information below.
Rights when travelling under one contract
If you have booked a continuous journey with Widerøe, for example from Mosjøen to Stavanger with a change of aircraft in Oslo, we are responsible for ensuring that you reach your final destination (you are traveling under one contract). This means that you have certain rights in the event of delays that causes you to miss your next flight. Widerøe will book you on the next possible flight with available seats. If the wait is long, we may, when needed, also provide you with meals and accommodation. This applies even if Widerøe could not avoid the delay, such as, when we cannot operate due to bad weather.
Rights when holding separate tickets
For instance, if you are traveling from Mosjøen to Stavanger but choose to book the journey leg by leg: Mosjøen - Trondheim - Oslo and Oslo - Stavanger, the overall cost of the trip may be lower, but you do not have the same rights in case of irregularities (you are traveling under three separate contracts). Consequently, you are not entitled to be booked onto a new flight if the airline could not avoid the delay. You also do not have the same rights to receive meals or hotel accommodation if you miss your next flight. Therefore, it is important that you calculate enough time between arrival and departure, considering that you have to wait for incoming baggage, as well as undergoing new check-in procedures and security checks within the time limits that apply to your onward journey. If you have purchased a separate ticket with Widerøe and are continuing your journey with another airline, you have to calculate a minimum of three hours between your scheduled arrival and your next flight departure. The minimum time must be observed before Widerøe will consider any liability if you miss your onward connection. Any liability only applies in cases where Widerøe could have avoided the delay in accordance with Norwegian Aviation Laws and Convention.
However, please note that delays and cancellations primarily result from events that Widerøe could not avoid, and you will usually not have the same rights as passengers travelling under one contract. Since the airlines' responsibility is limited in such cases, many find it useful to purchase travel insurance with terms that cover e.g., rerouting of the itinerary.
