Fly to Finnmark
Meet the whale, its snout poking out among the waves. Watch the sea birds following fishing boats on their excursions. In Finnmark, you will feel the wild outdoors and all kinds of weather. Whether you want to wander the plains or go fishing in the fjords, you will have an unforgettable northern experience.
Finnmark has towns, villages, nature and stark contrasts. You could spend a night in a lavvu, preparing reindeer meat over a bonfire and getting to know the traditional Sami culture and faith.
By Norwegian standards, Finnmark is incredibly vast. It is also abundant with opportunities for adventures. Did you know this county is about the size of Denmark?
Activities in Finnmark
Finnmark is worth visiting during any season, but the winter is special. Every year, two popular and unique ice hotels are rebuilt: one in Kirkenes and one in Alta. Here you can sleep on a literally frozen bed, with a reindeer’s hide for warmth.
The dog sledding race Finnmarksløpet is a festive occasion in this region. But it is a tough competition! The race goes all the way from Alta to Kirkenes and back – over 600 miles with a maximum of 14 dogs pulling the sled.
The wild outdoors and the beautiful coast makes Finnmark a great place to visit during summer as well. Go fishing for salmon and trout, or put on your hiking boots and go hunting for grouse in a national park. You can even go for a river safari, or take it slowly in a comfortable kayak.
Travel from city to village, through the Arctic landscape. The wild plains await you!
