Bodø

Whilst in Bodø - don't miss Nordlands largest yearly music festival. Nordland Music Festival 2010 takes place from 6th to 15th August. This festival is very popular, especially due to the fact that the concerts often are outdoors in beautiful nature. So you get both wonderful music and spectacular nature.

Not far from Bodø you find Saltstraumen which is the strongest and most spectacular of all nature attractions in Norway. If you are in for something wild - try rafting here! You may also get to see sea eagles close up on these trips. Alternatively, if you are more interested in the sea eagle - go on a sea eagle safari instead.

If you are enthusiastic about golf - try playing in the midnight-sun. You can play all night long if you like at Myklebostad, about 14km from Bodø Airport. Enjoy golfing and white sandy beaches in the midnight sun. Spend the night at Geitvågen camping or at the sea side in a "rorbu" cottage at Naurstad.

In the areas surrounding Bodø there are some "hidden gems" worth experiencing. Fall asleep to the sounds of the waves in one of the rorbu's and wake up hearing the cows grass outside on charming Kjerringøy. Take the boat to the nature reserve of Sørfugløy, a hilly island with spectacular walls and bird cliffs, and even chalk white paradise beaches.

North of Bodø you find mystical Mjelle; there's a fantastic feel no matter the weather. The sand is purple and the ripples of the waves makes beautiful patterns in the sand. The light is constantly changing and the view to Lofotveggen is indescribable.

If you want to experience an extra-ordinary trip, take "Kystriksvei 17" and drive about 2,5 hours south. From here you take the ferry to Engabreen (Svartisen). The ferry takes you across turquoise water to the most beautiful views of the glacier, the closer you get the more amazing it looks! Rent a bike, and cycle through dazzling nature and walk the last meters on foot to the glacier. Make this a full day trip by bringing some lunch and enjoy the views!
